Pichwai : Publication Design
The Art of Devotion and Storytelling...
Quick Overview
Pichwai is a book that explores India's cultural heritage through Nathdwara's traditional Pichwai paintings. The book covers it's history, unique features, intricate techniques, themes, motifs, and modern relevance.
“Pichwai” is a Sanskrit term combining “Pich” (behind) and “wai” (textile hanging). Each artwork visually narrates the devotion and mythological tales of Shrinathji, a young incarnation of Lord Krishna, often aligned with specific seasons or festivals. Beyond artistic beauty, Pichwai paintings aim to convey Krishna's stories to the illiterate.

PICHWAI

Emotional Connect
As a follower of Shri Krishna, I wanted my book design to connect with him. While working on the project, I noticed the widespread use of Pichwai as inspiration for clothing, wedding décor, gifts, and more, often without a full understanding of its meaning. This led me to base my book design on the theme of “Pichwai.”
